For our thrills and chills, we will be doing monthly themes! Read a horror book that fits the theme and talk about it with fellow horror enthusiasts!

September's Theme: Welcome Home
Suggested Title: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

“No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality."

Horror Book Club invites you home. This home just happens to stare back.

You may know the trope: a group gathers in a house rumored to be haunted and live--or not--to regret it. But Shirley Jackson is the true pioneer. Considered a classic by many horror fans, The Haunting of Hill House has watched many a reader go through its doors, and it's always hungry for more.

In this original tale that inspired Elizabeth Hand's Haunting on the Hill and a Netflix show, we meet Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a "haunting"; Theodora, the lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena.

"Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone." But no longer.

We will be meeting in-person AND on Zoom!
