NO Watercolor 101 this week In-Person
Please join us for a 6-week, in-person watercolor class, where you will learn the basics and complete a landscape with your new skill!
From the instructor:
This class will be geared for Adult BEGINNERS. We will start by learning some color theory in order to be able to mix colors properly/realistically. We will then do 3 quick, and one slightly longer, practice landscapes. After that, participants will have time to start a watercolor of their choice. There will not be "homework" unless you choose to do some practice.
Some drawing skill would be helpful, but is not required.
Instructor Alicia Luba is a graduate of Syracuse University (BFA) and Temple University (MEd). She taught art for over 30 years and high school art for more than 20. She is "in no way" a professional watercolorist, but she loves teaching beginners!
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
Register below ONCE for the entire series.
Space is LIMITED--PLEASE ONLY REGISTER IF YOU CAN MAKE *AT LEAST* 4 OF THE 6 CLASSES.
The Library will provide the following supplies, but you are welcome to bring your own:
- A board (a drawing board or anything similar--does not need to be fancy, just rigid and bigger than your paper size)
- Masking tape (NOT drafting tape)
- Watercolor paper (a pad is probably best--9x12 or 11x 15, but sheets are fine. If you get it at Michael's, their Artist's Loft brand is cheaper and perfectly fine.)
- A pencil (a #2, HB or mechanical are all fine)
- 2 erasers (1 vinyl or plastic white eraser and 1 kneaded rubber eraser)
- 2 cups or jars for water (about 8-16 oz. size)
- A Crayola watercolor set (yes, this is fine for our purposes)
- A larger watercolor brush (a number 10 round; just get level 1 or 2)
- A detail brush (a number 1, 0 or 00)
- Paper towels
Optional: a fan brush (handy for grass and hair details)
A number 6 round watercolor brush (a really decent one comes in the Crayola set, but if you are worried...)
An extra mixing tray (can be purchased or an old white plate or something similar)
In order to maximize the quality of the class, we are limiting the size. Please only register if you are able to attend regularly.
